The Executive Committee of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has elected incoming GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Alan Batey, as its new President.
Mr Batey replaces Mark Reuss who stepped down as Holden Chairman and MD and FCAI President to take up a senior executive position with General Motors in the United States.
“I am pleased and honoured to represent the Australian automotive industry as President of the FCAI,” Mr Batey said.
“I believe that our automotive industry must continue to focus strongly on its commitment to improving vehicle safety and continuing to meet the challenge of improving environmental performance – these will remain key priorities for the FCAI,” he said.
“I am also firmly committed to the future of automotive manufacturing in Australia and I look forward to working closely with the Federal Government as the industry prepares to implement the next phase of the New Car Plan for a Greener Future,” Mr Batey said.
Mr Batey is a 30 veteran of the car industry, having begun his career with Vauxhall in the UK in 1979. Since then he has worked on four continents including senior roles for GM in Zurich, the Middle East, Germany and Korea before arriving in Australia in 2006 as GM Holden’s Executive Director – Sales, Marketing and Aftermarket.
Mr Batey takes up his new appointment as Chairman and Managing Director of GM Holden on 1 September.
