The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) welcomes the $9.7 million announcement by the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack of the establishment of the Office of Future Transport Technologies.
The new Office builds on and enhances the existing Transport Technologies Future Taskforce, located within the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities. FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber welcomed this continuity:
“Our members are at the forefront of developing future vehicle technology globally and bringing this to market. With continuing enhancements in connected and automated vehicles, it is critical that Australia is at the forefront of the development of realistic and efficient regulatory settings” Mr Weber said.
Australia accounts for just over one per cent of global new vehicle sales. As such, it is essential that Government and industry work in partnership to lessen barriers to bringing in future technologies.
“We welcome the Deputy Prime Minister’s announcement, and look forward to building on our strong existing engagement with Government to develop the regulatory settings of the future – consistent with international developments through the United Nations” Mr Weber added.
