The Australian automotive industry is committed to continuing to make a strong contribution to national efforts to reduce the impact of global climate change and to improve air quality. The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) support a range of measures to enable the light transport sector to make a meaningful contribution to these objectives. Central to this is an achievable and market relevant CO₂ emissions reduction target, the introduction of ‘Euro 6’ vehicle emissions standards to Australia and the need for fuel quality standards.
The FCAI welcomes the discussion on increasing electric vehicle take-up in Australia. This is one technology that will play a role in reducing the emissions-intensity of Australia’s vehicle fleet over the coming decade and beyond, along with other technologies such as hybridisation and hydrogen fuel cells.
