The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) welcomes the Western Australian Government’s continued investment in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. EV charging infrastructure is absolutely critical to a low emissions technology future.
The $12.5 million investment in round two of the Charge Up Workplace Electric Vehicle grant program will help expand charging infrastructure throughout Western Australia and support not for-profits, small and medium businesses, and local government authorities purchase and install an EV charger.
The program aims to maximise daytime EV charging, promote off-peak charging, and support the conversion to EV fleets. This initiative underscores the importance of building the necessary infrastructure to support the increasing number of EVs on Western Australian roads.
In 2023, Western Australians have purchased 6,590 new EVs, up from more than 1,845 during the same period last year. EVs currently account for 6.4 per cent of new vehicle sales in the state.
Applications for the program close on 3 May 2024. For more information and how to apply, visit: www.wa.gov.au/chargeup.
