The FCAI and member companies recognise the potential of connected and automated vehicles
(CAV) to provide significant safety, environmental and social benefits to Australia through reductions
in crashes, reduced congestion and increased mobility.
This submission will focus on the key technical and regulatory issues that need to be addressed to
facilitate the large-scale introduction of connected and automated vehicles. New light vehicles
(passenger cars, SUVs and LCVs) being introduced into Australia are being fitted with increasing
levels of automation, and models introduced from late 2017/early 2018 are expected to be
equipped for connectivity (i.e. V2V and V2I communications).
