To facilitate the introduction of automated and connected vehicles, it is important to harmonise with the relevant overseas market’s vehicle technical and operation standards.
The FCAI and member companies strongly support ACMA’s proposed regulatory arrangements to support the introduction of C-ITS in the 5.9 GHz band (5.855-5.925 GHz) in Australia and issuing a new Class License under section 132 of the Radiocommunications Act 1992, for C-ITS transceivers in vehicles, roadside infrastructure and carried by people.
While this is a significant and positive step towards a C-ITS system in Australia, the Consultation Paper also recognises the risk to delivering the full benefits of C-ITS, and/or interference with other radio-communications activities if vehicles produced for either the US or Japanese domestic markets are introduced into Australia.
