The peak body representing the Australian automotive industry, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), has urged the Senate to get behind the industry and support legislation establishing a crucial element of the Federal Government’s New Car Plan for a Greener Future; the Automotive Transformation Scheme.
This is vital legislation that will pave the way for a new generation of Australian-built vehicles,” FCAI Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.
“The jobs of thousands of automotive workers as well as crucial innovation and R&D decisions are dependent on the support of this legislation,” he said.
“The Government has already strengthened the legislation through amendments in the House of Representatives which provide greater accountability,” Mr McKellar said.
“We urge the Senate to get behind Australian manufacturing and provide the car industry with the confidence to invest in new technologies and achieve the shared economic, environmental and workforce outcomes,” he said.
