The President of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), John Conomos AO, has announced the retirement on 1 June 2007 of FCAI Chief Executive Peter Sturrock.
Mr Sturrock will be succeeded by the FCAI’s current Director – Government Policy, Andrew McKellar.
The FCAI is the motor industry’s peak body responsible for government and consumer liaison and with implementation of industry policy arrangements.
Mr McKellar, 40, joined the FCAI five years ago. He has extensive policy experience in government. Mr McKellar served as a senior adviser to two successive federal industry ministers. He worked in the private sector with the Australian Industry Group and PriceWaterhouseCoopers, prior to joining FCAI.
Mr Sturrock retires after 43 years in the motor industry.
He was Managing Director of vehicle importer Inchcape Motors Australia before joining the FCAI as CEO in 1998.
“Peter Sturrock’s contribution to the development and maintenance of the motor industry has been substantial,” Mr Conomos said.
“He has headed the FCAI at a time of significant change and development, particularly in regard to the negotiation of policy and infrastructure arrangements in support of domestic vehicle manufacturing.
“He has also been instrumental in the enhancement of the Australian International Motor Show which has become the showcase of the industry.”
The Australian motor industry contributes $23 billion annually to the national economy.
Exports of Australian-made cars and components now account for around $5 billion in annual revenue.
