The Motor Vehicle Information Scheme (MVIS) came into effect on 1 July 2022 to increase competition and choice for consumers by ensuring vehicle manufacturers (and data providers more generally) provide access to diagnostic, service and repair information to all repairers and RTOs on fair and reasonable commercial terms.
FCAI supports the establishment and operations of a level playing field where its members make available to all repairers and RTOs the same information as to what they provide to their authorised dealer and service networks with due access controls and restrictions in relation to safety and security information that require specific accreditation and training.
FCAI represents its members on the Board of the Australian Automotive Service and Repair Authority (AASRA) whose role is to centralise access to data providers’ information portals through its website, verify credentials and authorise access to fit and proper professionals, facilitate dispute resolution, and report on scheme performance and systemic issues to the government and regulator.
